Golden Nugget

The Golden Nugget is one of the oldest hotel-casinos in Las Vegas, and is situated on Fremont Street, about 2 miles north of the Las Vegas Strip. This part of “Old Vegas” as the area is known, is not quite as pricey as the main Strip area with accommodation, restaurant and bar prices being a little more reasonable. There is a tremendous choice of bars, clubs, restaurants and casinos to choose from too! Fremont Street attracts thousands of visitors nightly due to it nightly light and sound show called the Fremont Street Experience. This incredible show features 12 million LED lights making one of the largest TV screens in the world which arcs over the entire street for a huge part of its length. Gigantic images whizz down the street above your head whilst an incredible sound system blasts you with music and sound effects.
For those who would like to visit the large casinos and hotels of the Strip, they are only a 10 minute taxi ride away. There is also a double-decker bus service that runs back and forward along the strip 24-hour is a day, every day.
There is plenty to see and do in the Golden Nugget and the surrounding area, however. The Fremont Street experience has already been mentioned and during the day this pedestrianised area is home to a myriad of street sellers offering a multitude of products ranging from clothing to Las Vegas souvenirs. The hotel itself has a small shopping area where guests can purchase jewellery, trendy clothes and specialist chocolate.
To while away an evening you can take in a performance at the Golden Nugget’s theatre. There is a constantly changing programme of shows, most of which will be suitable for a family audience.
On days when you feel like relaxing the hotel provides a comprehensive range of massage and facial treatments at its spa facility. The spa also has special packages for brides-to-be and wedding guests.
Of course, the Golden Nugget Casino is one of the major attractions for visitors. The casino has more than 1,000 slot machines and over 50 tables providing blackjack, poker, craps and roulette.
A fairly recent attraction at the Golden Nugget is the 2,000 gallon aquarium which is home to many fearsome species such as sharks and stingrays. The hotel has devised a novel way to view these creatures by providing a water slide which winds its way down through three storeys of the hotel and through the aquarium itself. Don't worry though - this slide is fully secured from the sharks! As well as the water slide the hotel has a large swimming pool where guests can have a relaxing swim and lounge at the poolside whilst the sharks and sea creatures swim about in the background. Luxurious poolside cabanas can be hired for those wishing to acquire a little more comfort and privacy poolside.

A more formal meal can be had at Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse, while simpler fare can be had at The Grille and Lillie’s Noodle House.
