The Cooper Square
The 21 storey Cooper Square Hotel opened its doors to the public in the latter half of 2008. It is situated in the heart of the Bowery district, once a hive of flophouses and now a lively area with a character of its own, brimming with restaurants and specialist shops. Although there is much to see and do here, there is plenty of public transport access to the sights of midtown Manhattan.
The area is known as the East Village and has a fascinating history. First settled by Dutch farmers hundreds of years ago, there are many reminders of its somewhat chequered past. For instance, just along the road from the hotel is McSorley’s Alehouse. This establishment opened in 1854 and is now the oldest saloon in New York. There is a strong tradition of music and art movements in this part of New York and it is said that punk rock saw its beginnings in the area.
The Cooper Square Hotel has several places where guests can go to find a quiet spot to sit and relax. The Second Floor bar has an airy feel due to its large floor-to-ceiling windows, and there is a patio area with wonderful views.
For views of the city the Penthouse is the place to be. It is situated on the 21st floor and offers fantastic panoramic views of the area. If the weather is pleasant it is possible to step outside onto a huge wrap around terrace.
An unusual find in the middle of a New York hotel is a garden. That of the Cooper Square Hotel is a delightful haven in which to escape for a moment from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy afternoon tea here or a cocktail as evening descends.
The Library at The Cooper Square Hotel offers another tranquil area in which to relax – this time with a good book. The Library has a wide range of books, all of which are available to purchase, the proceeds going to a charity.

The Trilby
The Trilby serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with the emphasis on European cuisine. As well as the main restaurant area, the Trilby has small, intimate areas where guests can sip a cocktail and nibble on a snack.
