The Peninsula

The Peninsula Hotel offers five star accommodation from its superb 5th Avenue location. It opened its doors to the public in 1988 but the building it is housed in is much older than that, being a Beaux-Arts construction built in 1905, so typical of this part of New York.
For the shopaholic, the Peninsula is the perfect place to stay as it is situated just a few minutes from the world’s grandest and busiest shopping area, the designer boutiques and household name department stores of 5th Avenue. The hotel is so close to all the action on 5th Avenue that you won’t need to carry all your purchases around with you. Just bring them back to the hotel and go back to the fray.
There are many other landmark sights of Manhattan close to the Peninsula. Central Park is practically on the doorstep and the Rockefeller Center and Times Square are both within walking distance.
To help its guests to learn more about the city they are visiting, the Peninsula has devised its own “Academy” which offers walking tours and other experiences.
Although this area of Manhattan has plenty for the visitor to see and do, there may come a time when you just want to stay in and take in some of the hotel’s amenities. For example, there is the Spa which offers all the usual beauty and therapeutic treatments for your body and skin. When you’ve done with all that pampering you can tire yourself out in the fitness centre. As well as the usual fitness machines you can try your hand at yoga, in the specially designed yoga studio. There is also a swimming pool, glass-enclosed to keep you warm when the weather turns nasty. Drinks are served at the poolside, adding to that holiday atmosphere.
Dining
The main restaurant at the Peninsula is the Fives. Here you can enjoy traditional American cuisine served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Bar at Fives offers lighter, pub style meals for lunch and dinner, and also a wide range of cocktails. Cocktails are also served in the Gotham Lounge, the place to go for that most English of meals, afternoon tea.
To complete the line-up of places to eat and drink at the Peninsula, there is the Salon de Ning. The Salon is situated on the roof and from the terrace you can delight in the panoramic views of the city whilst sipping a cocktail.
For a private tête-a-tête meal or when you want to watch a blockbuster movie on your room’s plasma TV whilst eating, the hotel offers guests a 24 hour room service.
