The Pierre - A Taj Hotel

The Pierre is one of those rare hotels with a history all of its own. Built in 1930 on one of the most sought locations on 5th Avenue, the hotel exudes all of the luxury and elegance of the Grand European Hotels of that period. Although the exterior with its neo-renaissance architectural features reflects some of its past, the interior of today’s Pierre is brimming with the best in modern technology and furnishings following a recent US$100 million renovation.
Situated on 5th Avenue and overlooking Central Park, few Manhattan hotels can rival The Pierre as a venue for a visit to New York. The 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue shopping experience is but a short walk, and Central Park, offering a chance to unwind with a stroll through its acres of greenery, is so close it could be the hotel’s back garden. The neon extravagance of Times Square and Broadway and the dizzy heights of the Empire State Building are within easy reach and, should you wish to explore further afield, the subway at 5th Avenue and 59th Street is 5 minutes away.
Of course, The Pierre has so much to offer its guests within its walls that you might find it hard to tear yourself away.
The leisure time options at the hotel include the 24-hour fitness centre, where you can try a variety of keep fit equipment. If you are a newcomer to the world of exercise, professional personal trainers can be hired to help. If you prefer an easier way to look good then there are no less than two salons at The Pierre where you can create a new look. These are René's and Dominique's, both of them past masters at getting the best out of your natural looks.
For an extra special dose of indulgence the Jiva Spa has a range of spa treatments and therapies drawn from the best of the ancient remedies of India. The spa's expert practitioners will use their experience to help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated, ready to face whatever New York has to offer.
Dining
As with most things at The Pierre, eating is turned into an experience.
The restaurant at the hotel is Le Caprice. This is an arm of the London Le Caprice, which has been one of London’s most fashionable restaurants for more than 60 years.
Like the sister establishment in London, the Le Caprice at The Pierre has a commitment to showing original artwork, and displayed on its walls are photos of sixties model Jean Shrimpton, taken by the celebrated British photographer, David Bailey.
Le Caprice serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, using mainly locally sourced fresh ingredients. The cuisine is decidedly European.
Two E Bar and Lounge
For lighter fare, the Two E bar is available from lunchtime until 1 am and serves salads, sandwiches and afternoon teas. Coffee, tea and cocktails are on hand throughout the day.
All of the guestrooms and suites have recently been renovated to provide an under-stated luxury with a home-from-home feeling. Abundant use is made of natural materials such as silks, wood and leather, with the colours of the decor being muted and neutral in hue.
