Waldorf Astoria

There can be few people who haven’t heard of the Waldorf Astoria. Since 1893 its name has been synonymous among discerning travellers with the best of old-world service and elegance. Set in a magnificent Art Deco building in midtown Manhattan, the hotel is listed as an official landmark of the city.
The Waldorf Astoria is huge, occupying its own complete block of the city. Its prime location on the famed Park Avenue puts it within easy walking distance of such “must see” New York City sights as Central Pak, Grand Central Station, The Rockefeller Center and Times Square. For the ladies, the magnet of 5th Avenue, with its array of shops, will be an irresistible draw. Theater lovers will regard the proximity to the Broadway theatres an added bonus.
If you don’t feel in the mood for sightseeing, the hotel has plenty to offer within its own walls. For those with fitness on their minds the new Fitness center on the 5th floor has all the equipment you need for an invigorating workout. A thoughtful touch is the provision of workout clothing, water bottles and towels. If you just want to relax, the Waldorf Astoria will spoil you for choice as it has no less than three lounges, all furnished to redefine your idea of relaxation.
An unusual experience which shouldn’t be missed is a guided tour of the best of the Waldorf’s Art Deco architecture and history. These tours include lunch at Peacock Alley or Oscar’s.
Dining at this hotel can be an occasion or a simple affair, depending on your mood. The Peacock Alley Restaurant is popular with New Yorkers as well as hotel guests for its casual but smart atmosphere. Steak lovers will be able to eat their fill at the renowned Bull and Bear Steakhouse, and, of course, there’s Oscar's Brasserie. Oscar’s is named after the Waldorf’s maitre d’ who invented the salad that bears the hotel’s name and can be found on restaurant menus the world over.
As already mentioned, the Waldorf Astoria is a huge hotel and there are over 1400 suites and guest rooms to choose from. Every room has its own unique decor and provides a spacious and beautifully furnished "home from home".
