One of the most popular areas of San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf is a waterside neighbourhood redeveloped for the tourist trade during the 70's and 80's and containing an array of hotels, eateries, shops and many museums and attractions.
Originally settled by Italian fishermen who set up in the area and fished for the local Dungeness Crab and once home to a fleet of over 500 boats. These days only a few fishing boats still ply their trade from Fisherman's Wharf, servicing the multitude of seafood vendors and upmarket restaurants of this popular district.
Fisherman's Wharf is serviced by several bus and trolley lines and the Powell-Hyde cable car runs to the Aquatic Park at the edge of the district.
